IELTS
Students looking at studying in Canada need to demonstrate their language efficiency and aptitude to take admission in their desired University/College in Canada.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTS:
Since the medium of instruction in most Canadian Universities is English, it is important for students wanting to study in Canada to be well versed in English for easy comprehension. IELTS is the most commonly accepted test by Canadian Universities.

IELTS Academic Test: International Engish Language Testing Service is one of the more popular English Language Tests which is accepted by most Canadian Universities. This test is accepted in the United States, Australia, UK and New Zealand as well. This exam assesses the candidates ability to communicate in terms of the core skills of listening, speaking, writing and reading. The minimum score required for getting the study visa is 6.0 even though some Universities and Colleges have a lower minimum requirement. The sections on writing and reading vary as per the program applied for while the listening and speaking skills are the same for all courses. This exam is owned and managed by IDP Education Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. The cost of the test is around Rs. 15,500.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, IDP has allowed students to take the online exam (IELTS Indicator) from home. This process makes the exam more accessible where the study centres are closed for safety reasons.
WHY TAKE THE IELTS EXAM?
While students are aware that admission to a Canadian Institute requires a particular score on the IELTS exam, there are other reasons why the exam should be taken:

IELTS FEE
IELTS Academic Exam Fee: Rs. 16,250
Cancellation Fee: Rs. 2325
Candidates will receive a refund after deduction of 25% administrative charge is you cancel more than 5 weeks prior to your exam date. There is no refund is you cancel less than 5 weeks before your exam date. The only exception is if you provide a medical certificate within 5 days of the exam, you can avail a refund.
Rescheduling Fee: Rs. 3,300 (approx. $40.5)
The IELTS scores are valid for 2 years. The scores can be shared with a maximum of 5 universities free of cost. There is a charge of Rs. 250 per institution by normal post beyond 5 universities and Rs. 1500 if sending through a courier
The IELTS exam can be rescheduled upto 5 weeks before the exam date. The new exam date must be within 3 months of the original exam date.
Exam Dates and Syllabus:
The IELTS Test is conducted throughout the year. It is advisable to take the test three to four months prior to your admisson dates so that you have time to prepare for the exam as well as time to retake the test if you are not satisfied with the scores. In India, the test is conducted in over 80 cities and can be booked online or in person at any IDP office. Candidates below the age of 16 are not eligible to take the test.
Before you register for the test, it is important to understand the syllabus. Students are graded on the four components of listening, speaking, writing and reading. The total score is the sum of each component score. The duration of the test is 2 hours and 44 minutes and follows the structure given below.
Exam Structure:
1. Listening Module: 4 sections; 30 minutes total time
The Listening Module has four sections with ten questions for each part. The first two parts are focused on social needs. It is a conversation between two speakers while the second part is a monologue. The other two parts deal with situations related to educational or training contexts. This is again divided into one part as a conversation between four people and the other part being a monologue. The questions can be a mix of multiple choice, matching, sentence completion or short-answer questions. The recording can only be listened to once with questions to be answered while listening to the recording.
2. Reading Module: 3 sections; 20 minutes for each section
3. Writing Module: 2 sections; 20 minutes for 1 section and 40 minutes for second section
4. Speaking Module: 11-14 minutes to complete
