LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE
Before you can apply for a Study Visa, a student must receive a Letter of Acceptance from the Designated Learning Institute. Below are some tips to identify if the Letter of Acceptance has been received from a genuine Institute:
The Letter of Acceptance must contain the following details:
-
The student's full name, date of birth and communication address
-
The student's ID number (if applicable)
-
The name of the Institute and the official contact person
-
The licensing information of the Institute should be clearly mentioned in the letterhead.
-
The DLI number
-
What type of school or institution it is e.g. private, public, post-secondary college or community college etc.
-
The program, level of study and year of study for which the student has been accepted.
-
The estimated duration of the program or estimated date of completion.
-
The start date of the program
-
The last date by which the student must register.
-
Whether the program is full time or part-time.
-
The estimated tuition fees for the first year of study and scholarships of financial aid, if any is being provided.
-
The details of any internship or work placement, if required
-
The expiry date by which the student must accept or reject the offer. This is important if the study permit processing is not completed before the expiry date, the Institute can be requested for an extension letter to ensure that the study permit is processed by IRCC.
-
Any conditions of acceptance such as proof of language or pending documents that need to be submitted.
While the Letter of Acceptance is the first step in processing the Study Visa, it is not a guarantee of success in getting the Study Visa as it is the discretion of IRCC to approve the application.
Due to recent issues of fraud and abuse of the system, IRCC has announced new measures to strengthen the system. There is now an online portal to verify Letters of Acceptance (LOA). The LOA is an official confirmation that a student has received admission into a Designated Learning Institution. This is the first step in the application for a Canadian study permit. The DLI's are required to verify the LOA's submitted by the students through the online portal. The verification process must be completed within 10 days. If the DLI fails to validate the LOA within 10 days or if they claim that the letter is fake, the student visa application will be canceled.
