Overview

One of Canada's best known institutions of higher learning, McGill University was founded in 1821.  It is recognized globally for excellence of its teaching and research programs.  McGill attracts international students from over 150 countries, making up over 30% of the total student body.  McGill University is located in Montreal, ranked as one of the best cities for students and one of largest French speaking cities in the world. McGill University is one of the largest universities in Canada with over 30,000 students enrolled.


The areas of expertise for this university include neurosciences, cancer research, law, climate research, agricultural and environmental science,  genetic research, humanities, social sciences and education research.

ADMISSIONS

Applicants for the United States must have completed a high school diploma with an academic program leading to university entrance. Applicants must also have taken the ACT or the SAT.

International students must have completed programs that lead to university entrance. Emphasis is given to grades obtained in courses relevant to the intended program of study. Class X, XI and XII results/transcripts will be considered.

TUITION FEES

$47,000 approximately for a BA in Arts & Humanities.  There may be some difference in the tuition fees for other programs.

SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

McGill University offers scholarships and financial aid to international students for qualified applicants from any geographic region. Newly admitted students can apply to the Entrance Scholarship Program which is a merit-based entrance scholarship. There are two types of scholarships which are available: 1 One-year Scholarship which is valued at $3,000
  1. Major Scholarship which can be renewed annually and is valued between $3000 and $12,000.

In addition, certain faculty-specific scholarships are also available like Music, Dental and Oral Health Science, Law and Medicine.

External awards are also available from associations, corporations, organizations and foundations.

The University also offers need-based financial aid programs through loans and bursaries to students in need of supplemental financial assistance.

STUDENT HOUSING

McGill University offers 10 downtown and two MacDonald Campus residences. Majority of the rooms are single rooms.  Residence space is guaranteed to all first year non-local students.  Off campus housing services are also provided by the university.
