Overview
Founded in 1878, the Universite de Montreal started as a branch of Universite Laval de Quebec with just three faculties--theology, law and medicine. In 1887, the faculty of arts was added to the program. The current campus was established in 1895 in the Latin Quarter. It was in 1919 that Universite de Montreal became an autonomous university.
